SCAS Welcomes a New Generation of Pro Futura Scientia Fellows

The Swedish Collegium is delighted to present the talented researchers who have been appointed
Pro Futura Scientia XV Fellows. The new Fellows are:

Arthur Asseraf, History, University of Cambridge (nominated by the University of Cambridge).
Research proposal: From Race to Rumour

Katharina Ó Cathaoir, Law, University of Copenhagen (nominated by the University of Copen-
hagen).
Research proposal: The Law on Health Data Outliers

Yaffa Epstein, Environmental Law, Uppsala University (nominated by Uppsala University).
Research proposal: Developing Rights of Nature Jurisprudence

Lisa Hellman, History, Lund University (nominated by Lund University).
Research proposal: Connections in Shackles: The Impact of Prisoners of War on Early Modern
Globalisation

Janina Neufeld, Neuroscience/Psychology/Psychiatry, Karolinska Institutet (nominated by
Karolinska Institutet).
Research proposal: Synesthesia - Burden or Benefit? A Multi-level Twin Study on the Co-occurrence,
Interactions and Shared vs Non-shared Mechanisms of Synesthesia and Mental Disorders

The Pro Futura Scientia programme is a cutting-edge research programme for promising early-career
scholars in the humanities and social sciences. Admittance is based on nominations, and in January this
year, it was announced that the fifteenth round of nominations for the programme attracted a total of
29 nominations - 16 women and 13 men - from fifteen universities in five countries.

After an extensive selection process and at the recommendation of the Swedish Collegium’s international
programme selection committee, the formal decision has now been made by the Board of Riksbankens
Jubileumsfond. As always, the final selections were based on excellent research profiles and the
scholars’ ability to work independently and with ground-breaking results.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME:
The Pro Futura Scientia programme was initiated in 1999 by the Swedish Collegium for Advanced
Study and Riksbankens Jubileumsfond. Thanks to the carefully designed structure of the programme,
talented scholars are given optimal scope for developing as researchers, over several years and in stimu-
lating environments, and it has thus proved to be an attractive career path.

The programme attracts promising young scholars not only from Sweden, but also from abroad. An
increasing number of researchers from the international arena enter the Swedish university and research
system this way. The important role that the programme has come to play in the Swedish academic system
over the years is shown through the large number of current or former Pro Futura researchers that have
taken up distinguished professorships, and/or have been elected members of scholarly academies and
societies and joined research councils and key bodies at universities.
